Dr. Tejinder Kataria

Dr. Tejinder Kataria is one of India's most eminent radiation oncologists, a specialist whose 35 years of dedicated practice has made her a national authority in advanced radiation therapy and a pioneer of stereotactic radiosurgery in India. As Chairperson of the Division of Radiation Oncology at Medanta – The Medicity Cancer Institute in Gurugram, she leads a state-of-the-art programme equipped with the full complement of modern radiation technologies. Her three-decade career has paralleled the transformation of the field from conventional two-dimensional radiotherapy to the highly conformal, image-guided precision techniques defining modern radiation oncology. Dr. Kataria has not merely observed this transformation – she has actively shaped and championed it within the Indian context, building a programme at Medanta that rivals the technical capabilities of leading international radiation oncology centres. Her technical expertise encompasses intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), CyberKnife radiosurgery, high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy and adaptive radiotherapy. CyberKnife – the robotic radiosurgery system delivering sub-millimetre precision to intracranial and extracranial targets – is one of her signature techniques. She has treated hundreds of patients with brain metastases, acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, spinal tumours and prostate cancer using this non-invasive approach with outstanding local control rates. Over her career Dr. Kataria has treated over 20,000 cancer patients across all tumour sites including head and neck cancers, lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, gynaecological cancers, brain tumours and gastrointestinal malignancies. She is particularly recognised for expertise in complex cases with critical organ-at-risk constraints where standard techniques would produce unacceptable toxicity.
