Dr. Subhash Chandra

Dr. Subhash Chandra is India's most celebrated cardiac electrophysiologist, a pioneering clinician whose 32-year career at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital in New Delhi has produced an extraordinary legacy of innovation in arrhythmia management, device therapy and complex coronary intervention. As Senior Director of Cardiac Sciences at BLK-Max, he leads one of Delhi's most comprehensive and technologically advanced cardiac programmes. Dr. Chandra completed his MBBS, MD in General Medicine and DM in Cardiology before undertaking a Fellowship in Electrophysiology in the United States, training at one of America's foremost EP centres. This fellowship gave him mastery of catheter mapping and ablation techniques for complex arrhythmias at a time when EP was rapidly evolving, and he returned to India to build one of the country's earliest and most sophisticated electrophysiology programmes. He is widely recognised as the pioneer of Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy in India – the biventricular pacing technology that dramatically improves symptoms, exercise capacity and survival in patients with heart failure and ventricular dyssynchrony. His introduction of CRT-D – CRT with defibrillation – and development of CRT implantation protocols for the Indian setting enabled thousands of Indian heart failure patients to benefit from this life-changing technology. His ablation expertise encompasses atrial fibrillation – pulmonary vein isolation and substrate-based ablation for persistent AF – supraventricular tachycardias including AVNRT, AVRT, atrial flutter and atrial tachycardia, and ventricular arrhythmias including idiopathic VT and scar-related VT in structural heart disease. He uses three-dimensional electroanatomic mapping systems – CARTO and EnSite – for complex ablation requiring precise arrhythmia circuit identification. Beyond electrophysiology, Dr. Chandra maintains a high-volume interventional cardiology practice with particular expertise in complex PCI and chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention – the most technically demanding branch of coronary intervention. He has performed over 10,000 complex cardiac interventional procedures, making him one of India's most experienced combined EP/interventional cardiologists.
