Dr. Randeep Guleria

Dr. Randeep Guleria is India's most distinguished pulmonologist and respiratory physician, a clinician-scientist whose 35-year career has encompassed some of the highest positions in Indian medicine while maintaining an active, high-volume clinical practice. Currently Chairman of the Institute of Internal Medicine and Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Medanta – The Medicity in Gurugram, he brings rare synthesis of expert clinical judgement, evidence-based practice and senior institutional leadership to every patient encounter. Dr. Guleria completed his MBBS from Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla before post-graduate specialisation at the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, where he earned both his MD in General Medicine and DM in Pulmonary Medicine – a dual specialisation enabling him to manage patients with complex multi-system diseases involving respiratory, cardiovascular and metabolic components with exceptional clinical depth. Before joining Medanta, Dr. Guleria built a landmark career at AIIMS New Delhi – India's premier public medical institution – rising to Professor and Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Disorders. In 2017 he was appointed Director of AIIMS New Delhi, overseeing an institution of 10,000+ staff and one of India's busiest tertiary referral hospitals, a position he held with distinction until 2022. His evidence-based communication on national media shaped both clinical practice and public understanding during an unprecedented health crisis. A prolific researcher with over 200 peer-reviewed publications, he presents regularly at the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society annual congresses and serves as a WHO consultant on respiratory disease guidelines. He has trained generations of pulmonologists across his career at AIIMS and Medanta. His contributions have been recognised with the Padma Shri 2015, Dr. B.C. Roy National Award 2014 and an honorary Doctorate of Science from IIT Kharagpur. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences India and Past President of the Indian Chest Society.
